Understanding VESA Standards for TV Stand
When it comes to mounting your television securely, understanding VESA standards is crucial. VESA, which stands for Video Electronics Standards Association, has established guidelines that define the mounting interface for televisions and monitors. These standards ensure that TVs can be safely attached to compatible mounts or stands, reducing the risk of accidents and damage.
Our list of suitable TV sizes is perfect for most TVs, but if you are concerned about accidents or your TV is not listed, the most important thing to consider when determining if the bracket will fit your TV is the VESA standard.
In addition, the screws we provide will fit most televisions, so if they don't fit, please contact your TV seller for the right screws for your TV.
What Are VESA Standards?
The VESA standard, also known as VESA dimensions, defines the standard for the mounting interface of monitors and televisions. The standard VESA is made up of four-hole positions.
These measurements are expressed in millimetres (mm). For example, a VESA standard of 400 x 400 means that the holes are 400 mm apart both horizontally and vertically.

The VESA mounting standard specifies the dimensions of the four-hole mounting interface on the back of the monitor and the screws used to mount those holes. It also specifies the location of the hole pattern on the monitor.
Common VESA sizes include:
- 100 x 100 mm: Typically for TVs up to 32 inches
- 200 x 200 mm: Common for TVs up to 55 inches
- 400 x 400 mm: Often used for TVs up to 65 inches
- 600 x 400 mm: Usually found on larger TVs, such as those over 70 inches
Which VESA standard am I using?
The easiest way is to measure the VESA standard of your TV. You can easily find the four holes on the back of your TV. First measure the horizontal distance between the holes and then measure the vertical distance. The measurements are given in millimetres. Now you know the VESA standard of your TV. Or you can contact your TV seller to ask about the specific parameters of your TV set.
-
Locate the Mounting Holes: Check the back panel of your TV for four holes arranged in a square or rectangle.
-
Measure Horizontally: Measure the distance between the centres of the left and right holes.
-
Measure Vertically: Measure the distance between the centres of the top and bottom holes.
- Record Your Measurements: The measurements will give you your TV's VESA size in millimetres (e.g., if you measure 400 mm horizontally and 300 mm vertically, your VESA size is 400 x 300).

Alternatively, you can check the VESA information in the device's datasheet or on the manufacturer's technical data page.
Checking Compatibility with Your TV Stand
When selecting a TV stand or mount, it’s essential to ensure it is compatible with your TV's VESA size. Most product descriptions will specify which VESA sizes they support. Additionally, consider these factors:
- Weight Capacity: Ensure that your stand can support the weight of your television. Larger TVs require sturdier stands with higher weight capacities.
- Stability: For larger models, stability is paramount. Look for stands designed specifically for heavier televisions to prevent tipping or swaying.
- Design and Features: Choose a stand that complements your home decor and offers features like adjustable height, swivel capabilities, or built-in cable management for a clean look.
We have a ‘TV VESA Charts’ section on every TV stand product page for your reference, again with measurements in millimetres.
If your TV is large, even if it is VESA compatible, it is best to look at the weight capacity of the stand, stability comes first. For more Buying Guide-related content, you can jump to our Buying Guide for more information.
